Instagram has grown to over 2 billion monthly active users, and almost 25.31 % of the world’s population uses it. Instagram’s general format has evolved a lot over the past few years. Users love Instagram’s free photo-sharing tool and enjoy the latest updates. However, there’s no doubt that it can be overwhelming and time-consuming, especially for young people who have become addicted to it and cannot figure out how to take a break from its continuous usage.

How to permanently delete your account

Have you made up your mind to delete your Instagram account? It’s a big decision because once you have deleted your account, all the data you have shared over time, such as pictures, videos, reels, and other content, will also be lost forever.

Before the deletion process, consider whether you want to deactivate your account instead. Deactivating hides your profile and images from sight, but if you change your mind and want to return to Instagram, you can restore your account and all the content.

Steps to follow

However, if you still want to delete your account, here’s how to do it:

  • Open the Instagram app on your phone or tablet.
  • Click on the profile icon in the bottom right corner.
  • Click on the three horizontal lines at the top right corner.
  • Click on “Settings” at the top of the menu.
  • Go to Account.
  • Click on “Delete Account.”
  • Look at the bottom of the page. There are “Deactivate account” & “Delete account” options.
  • Click on “Delete Account.”
  • Tap on “Continue deleting account.”
  • Enter your Instagram account password.
  • Click “Delete @username.”

And it’s gone for good.

Remember that it may take up to 30 days for your account and all its content to be permanently deleted. Suppose you have second thoughts about deleting your account and want to activate it again. You can cancel the deletion process anytime by logging back into your account within 30 days.

It’s also worth noting that deleting your Instagram account will not delete any of the content you’ve shared on other social media platforms, such as Facebook or Twitter. If you want to delete your content from those platforms, you’ll need to do so separately.

Deleting your Instagram account is a permanent decision that should not be taken lightly. If you want to take a break from the platform or hide your content from view, it’s usually better to deactivate your account instead. However, the process is relatively straightforward if you want to delete your Instagram account permanently.
